Are You Being Proactive With Your Skincare?

Are You Being Proactive With Your Skincare?

When it comes to skincare, most of us like to just slap on some moisturizer and call it a day. Being lazy about your skincare routine might work if you’re young and had the luck to be born with flawless skin, but as soon as you start ageing, or if you have any sort of skin issues, the skin treatment needs to be adjusted to your particular needs. Being proactive with your skincare means tailoring the whole morning and evening routine so it can fix any problems and keep your face fresh and glowing. Below we explain how to do that in a few simple steps.

Figure out what your skin needs

Products you use should be chosen based on your skin type. If you aren’t sure what your skin type is, then you can always ask a face specialist for help. After you establish a certain regimen, it’s important to stick to it. Care routing is usually done in layers. After washing your face with a gentle cleanser, use a light water-based serum, then the appropriate moisturizer. If you are using an acne treatment, rub it in right after you clean your skin. Never ever go to bed with makeup on, and don’t wash your face too much during the day. Once in the morning and once in the evening is enough. You don’t want to irritate the skin and make it overproduce sebum. If your face feels greasy during the day use a blotting paper, or wash just with water.

Be especially careful during summer

Skincare is not just about the face. Although a moisturizer with an SPF should be used at all times, it’s especially important during summer. Use a body lotion with a high SPF and wear clothing made from breathable fabric. Summer is also the time those pesky mosquitoes like to come out and poke us with joy, leaving red, itchy spots all over our skin. Using a repellent cream can be uncomfortable if your skin is sensitive, that’s why you should go with natural mosquito repellent this summer. You could make your own solution by mixing tea tree and almond oil, or you could check for some products online. There’s plenty to choose from and if you’re trying to be cautious about what you put on your skin, feel free to try out some of the organic products that are usually a very good option for sensitive skin. Drinking plenty of water is also a must in summer, as it will help you remain hydrated and keep your skin’s elasticity.

Have a balanced diet

Good skin is directly related to your overall health and what you eat every day. If your diet consists of processed foods and greasy snacks then it’s no wonder your face keeps breaking out and your skin has bad texture. Eating healthy isn’t difficult, but it takes some willpower and the knowledge of what kinds of things are good for you. Generally, if you eat plenty of fruits and vegetables and avoid processed foods you’re on a good path. Exercising at least three times a week will also help your overall health and appearance.

If you put effort into the care of your skin, then you will get a lot in return. There is nothing better than a face that radiates natural beauty. If you pay attention and adjust your lifestyle then you will reap the benefits of feeling confident and happy in your own skin.
